Cracks in the Republic

Ray DiLorenzo

For our founding fathers, the proposition of political parties was a nightmare.

“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the Republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other.  This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”

John Adams

John Adams was not calling for more parties, rather he was saying that a political party system is inherently evil.  Washington says it with more clarity:

“…the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it…It agitates the Community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms; kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally, riot and insurrection.  It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which find a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions.”

George Washington

George Washington saw the possibility of the need for party in a monarchy, but thought it was dubious for an elective government. According to Washington, there was constant danger of excess, “a fire not to be quenched, it demands a constant vigilance to prevent it bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.”

Have these founding fathers described where we are today? Are we now being consumed? With the Clintons accepting millions of dollars from foreign entities in exchange for influence, with riots breaking out in major cities fed by “party passions,” with constant finger pointing at the opposition party no matter the proposal, with government at a stand still much of the time because of allegiance to party rather than country, with the media and education system teaching contempt for country, with a major party nearly eliminating God from its platform and forgetting that our unalieanable rights come from the same, are we not presently in a societal coma?

John Adams said:  “The Constitution is made for a religious and moral people and is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”  Are we no longer moral or religious?  Has everyone decided their own morality?

We have succeeded as a nation because we were moral and religious. We voluntarily made ourselves subserviant to the law, but now find many in  government have placed themselves above the law, unwilling to obey and protect the law they helped create. They encourage the citizenry to ignore the law and the very precepts that we all agreed to in our great compact, the Constitution.

Comes Donald Trump with the plaster and trowel, the un-Republican Republican, more interested in solving problems than party politics. He is being attacked and fought with from every direction and at every turn. Not because of what he wants to do, but because he is not of the right party or ideological label.

We don’t say that Trump is the savior of our country, only we can be that, but is this not a chance to be the nation we were designed to be? A nation designed to be free?  A people for which the Constitution was designed? A nation where E pluribus unum, many become one? Is this our final opportunity to cement the cracks?

Illegal Crossings Down 40% in Trump’s First Month

The number of people illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border has decreased by 40% during Trump’s first month in office according to DHS Secretary John Kelly.  Illegal border crossings went from 31,578 to 18,762 persons.  “We wil remain vigilant to respond to any changes in these trends..,” Kelly said.  The totals represent the lowest numbers in at least five years.  Townhall

Editor’s note: Border agents usually see a 10 – 20% increase in illegal crossing apprehensions during the months of January and February. The numbers of illegal crossings typically increase between March and May.

Left Furious Over Ben Carson “Slaves Were Immigrants” Speech

Liberals and the mainstream media were furious at Ben Carson over his speech calling slaves immigrants. Even though Ben Carson was technically correct [even Obama made a similar speech] in his definition of immigrants, he failed to mention that the immigration was involuntary.  Axios

Editor’s note: Many slave traders were black who took advantage of the riches to be made. What the Left also fails to mention is that because the slaves endured the institution of slavery, their descendants became both citizens of the greatest nation in the world and recipients of the greatest standard of living in history. Liberals just can’t let it go and find forgiveness.

Starbucks Sees Political Fallout

Starbucks decided to stake out a liberal political position and now sees their stock experience a steady decline, 4.1% in just this month alone. Fox News

Editor’s note:  How dumb!  Just be quiet and sell your over-priced coffee.

Khan-ed – Claim of Restricted Travel Unraveling

Khizr Khan, the Muslim Gold Star father who made an impassioned anti-Trump speech at the Democratic National Convention, has been caught in a lie. Mr. Khan, has been claiming that U.S. authorites were restricting his travel, causing him to cancel a scheduled speech in Toronto. It seems his claims are now unraveling.  The Canadian Foreign Ministry has denied any review of Khan’s ability to travel there and U.S. authorities have denied the ban. Mr. Khan’s claim did not state which U.S. agency contacted him and refused to elaborate on his initial statement to the Washington Post. Washington Post

Editor’s note:  Apparently it was the Canadian government that exposed his scam.  Canada has denied any issues with Khan traveling to Toronto. “We are unaware of any restrictions regarding this traveler,” says Camille Edwards, spokewoman for the Canadian Immigration Minister.  Mr. Khan is known to dislike President Trump and probably was attempting to put an exclamation point on his dislike.

Five Time Deportee Faces Vehicular Manslaughter Charges

An illegal immigrant faces vehicular manslaughter charges after crashing into a young woman’s car, killing her. Estuardo Alvarado, allegedly drunk, was speeding away from another car crash in southern California when he hit Sandra Duran’s car that was stopped at a red light. He is now being charged with five felony counts. Alvarado was first deported in 1998. Prior to his first removal, Alvarado was charged with more than 20 felonies and misdemeanors including possession of a weapon, drug dealing and trafficking. Alvarado had been deported five times.  Breitbart

Editor’s note:  Is it unreasonable to want to remove these people from our country? Is it unreasonable to want to save the lives of innocent people?  Is it reasonable to expect local government to protect its citizens if its in their power to do so?

ISIS On the Run In Iraq and Syria

“ISIS has been degraded by every measure,” a U.S. defense official said on Wednesday.  The estimate is that ISIS has lost about 65% of terrain it controlled at its peak in Syria and Iraq.  About 2,500 jihadists remain in Mosul, Iraq and about 3,000 to 4,000 remain in Raqqa, Syria, the de facto capital.  Breitbart

Editor’s note:  ISIS is in the process of augmenting their defenses in Raqqa. The expectation is for a tough fight.

American Shale Oil Destroying Saudi Arabia

Fitch Credit Ratings has declared that the profitable doubling of U.S. oil drilling over the last 9 months means the reemerging U.S. shale boom is a potent threat to Saudi Arabia. Breitbart

Editor’s note:  The oil drilling rig count fell last year to its lowest level since the 1940s, but has since jumped 93% on March 3. Oil is now selling for $48.45 a barrel (3/10).  Saudi Arabia needs a price of $90 a barrel to fund their lavish domestic entitlements. As a result, Saudi Arabia tried to destroy the U.S. oil fracking industry in 2014 by initiating a price war which resulted in an 18 year low of $23 per barrel. This cost of the price war to Saudi Arabia was about $198 billion through January, 2017 and has not yet recovered. The Saudis are in a bad way. If the price goes up to meet their needs, American production will also rise, canceling any positive outcome.

Tensions Rising – Trump Protesters Throw Punches

March 4th saw pro-Trump rallies across America. In Cody, Wyoming, there were about 150 – 200 Trump supporters with no counter-protesters or police officers in sight.  Elsewhere, in Berkeley and places like St. Paul, MN, Trump counter-protesters showed up in mass to disrupt the 1st Amendment rights of citizens wanting to support their president.  SUA

Editor’s note:  Numerous fights broke out in Berkeley while the police just watched. The counter-protesters like to think of themselves as anti-fascist (Antifa, for short).  But, in reality they are anti-fascist fascists.

For The Record

Liberal Dictionary

As a public service, to cut through the haze of liberal-speak, we will present in the coming weeks a handy dictionary of favorite liberal buzz words to clarify their true meanings.

Empower: Allowing liberals to scream, carry on and challenge anything they find or deem unfair or inequitable. Life lesson: Life is neither fair nor equitable.

Gun Control: Liberals don’t like guns, so you can’t have one.  We won’t say you can’t have one, but we’ll make it near impossible for you to own one.

Identify:  Think of it as a ticket to ride.  Men can identify as women, women as men.  You can identify as a black person, or an American Indian, wherever your imagination or psychosis takes you.

Inclusive:  Generally, everybody but white men.  Decisons should be made on the basis of group except if you are a white male, conservative, a gun owner or a Christian.

Pro-Choice:  The notion that women are allowed to decide if their children live or die. Allowing your child to live is considered ignorant.  Pro-choice is actually a conflict in terms.  To exercise your rights and be recognized as a liberated and enlightened woman, you must choose abortion.

Say What?

Editor’s note: In an effort to sell Obama’s $900 billion stimulus package in 2009, Ms. Pelosi made the above comment.  For those who think her opinion was just a slip of the tongue, she said it twice, several weeks apart, once in public and the other to Chris Wallace in an interview. Chris Wallace retorted, “Yes Madam Speaker it feels like almost twice the population are losing their jobs every month.”

What Say You?

Confirmed! Trump IS President – 3/4/2017

“Great newsletter!!! BTW, how come we’re not hearing about this valuable information?”  JG

“I love this newsletter and appreciate your efforts and the General’s life-long committment to this nation’s interest.  Patriots don’t see every issue the same way and we each have our own ideas of expertise and yes, bias.”  GA

“Undeniably, there is something more than emotional disappointment attached to Democrat rage.  Knowing the Clintons, there must be trillion dollar loses in promises that went down the drain, mostly global commitments these powers cannot keep.  Unless a strong hand is taken, we face great violence and danger in the future.”  MD

Healthcare – 3/4/2017

“I can vouch for the high medical costs.  Our daughter just had our first grandchild at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, MT.  She had to have a C- section, which I’m sure accounted for the cost.  As both our daughter and husband did not have medical insurance and were paying the fine on their taxes, they got two bills.  One bill was sent to our daughter for $26,000 and one bill was sent to our grandson (in his name) for $14,000. Our daughter has been making monthly payments and the hospital has since changed the baby’s name on the $14,000 bill to our daughter’s name.  Now our daughter gets a recorded phone call from the hospital every day to remind her that she owes this money and is expected to pay it.  Just thought I would send this bit of medical cost information.”  TM

Editor’s note:  The average annual income in the United States in 1950 was $2,992. It is now $55,775, an increase of 1,860%.  A typical new car in 1950 cost about $1,500. Now the average is $31,250. That is an increase of about 2,100%. The average cost of a home in 1950 was $8,500. Today it is $228,900…an increase of about 2,700%. All increases are substantial, but workable. The average cost of baby delivery without complications in 1950 was about $75. It is now about $11,000. That is an increase of about 15,000%…unworkable! Granted we have much better technology and a much better mortality rate, but the United States has the highest medical cost in the world and yet we rank 26th in the world for life expectency among developed countries (Huffington Post). Yes, we have some of the best medical care in the world, but we must get control of costs!  People should not be expected to go bankrupt and lose everything just because they are sick. More medical insurance availability isn’t necessarily going to fix all the problems.

Timeless Quotes

Davy Crockett

8/17/1786 – 3/6/1836

“There ain’t no ticks like poly-ticks.  Bloodsuckers all.”

Editor’s note:  There is much speculation as to how Davy Crockett died. We all know he met his death at the Alamo, but the circumstances surrounding his death is clouded. According to Susanna Dickenson, one of the survivors, just before the final siege on the morning of March 6, Davy Crockett, before running to his post, paused briefly in the chapel to say a prayer.

Many accounts of the battle say between five and seven Texans surrendered during the battle, possibly to General Castrillon. Incensed that his orders to take no prisoners was ignored, Santa Anna demanded the immediate execution of the survivors. Although Castrillon and several other officers refused to do so, staff officers who did not take part in the battle drew their swords and killed the unarmed Texans.

Ben, a former American slave, who worked as a cook for one of Santa Anna’s officers, tells a different story. He claims that Davy Crockett’s body was found in the barracks surrounded by “no less than sixteen Mexican corpses”, with Crockett’s knife buried in one of them.

Texas forces destroyed Santa Anna’s much larger army at the Battle of San Jacinto six weeks later. Santa Anna was found hiding in a marsh, dressed in a dragoon private’s uniform. Some say that he was wearing women’s clothing, but that is not true. He was wearing men’s silken underwear, understandably confusing some who were there.
