Former DIA Chief Michael Flynn Says Rise Of ISIS Was A “Willful Decision” US Government

In Al Jazeera’s latest Head to Head episode, former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency Michael Flynn confirms to Mehdi Hasan that not only had he studied the DIA memo predicting the West’s backing of an Islamic State in Syria when it came across his desk in 2012, but even asserts that the White House’s sponsoring of radical jihadists (that would emerge as ISIL and Nusra) against the Syrian regime was “a willful decision.”

Amazingly, Flynn actually took issue with the way interviewer Mehdi Hasan posed the question—Flynn seemed to want to make it clear that the policies that led to the rise of ISIL were not merely the result of ignorance or looking the other way, but the result of conscious decision making:

Hasan: You are basically saying that even in government at the time you knew these groups were around, you saw this analysis, and you were arguing against it, but who wasn’t listening?
Flynn: I think the administration.
Hasan: So the administration turned a blind eye to your analysis?
Flynn: I don’t know that they turned a blind eye, I think it was a decision. I think it was a willful decision.
Hasan: A willful decision to support an insurgency that had Salafists, Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood?
Flynn: It was a willful decision to do what they’re doing.

Hasan himself expresses surprise at Flynn’s frankness during this portion of the interview. While holding up a paper copy of the 2012 DIA report declassified through FOIA, Hasan reads aloud key passages such as, “there is the possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist principality in Eastern Syria, and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime.”

The Judicial Watch Document:

Rather than downplay the importance of the document and these startling passages, as did the State Department soon after its release, Flynn does the opposite: he confirms that while acting DIA chief he “paid very close attention” to this report in particular and later adds that “the intelligence was very clear.”

SOT0809-042415KILMEADEFLYNN-1WODX1QA

Lt. Gen. Flynn, speaking safely from retirement, is the highest ranking intelligence official to go on record saying the United States and other state sponsors of rebels in Syria knowingly gave political backing and shipped weapons to Al-Qaeda in order to put pressure on the Syrian regime:

Hasan: In 2012 the U.S. was helping coordinate arms transfers to those same groups [Salafists, Muslim Brotherhood, Al Qaeda in Iraq], why did you not stop that if you’re worried about the rise of quote-unquote Islamic extremists?

Flynn: I hate to say it’s not my job…but that…my job was to…was to to ensure that the accuracy of our intelligence that was being presented was as good as it could be.

The early reporting that treated the DIA memo as newsworthy and hugely revelatory was criticized and even mocked by some experts, as well as outlets like The Daily Beast. Yet the very DIA director at the time the memo was drafted and circulated widely now unambiguously confirms the document to be of high value, and indicates that it served as source material in his own discussions over Syria policy with the White House.

As Michael Flynn also previously served as director of intelligence for Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) during a time when its prime global mission was dismantling Al-Qaeda, his honest admission that the White House was in fact arming and bolstering Al-Qaeda linked groups in Syria is especially shocking given his stature.

Consider further the dissonance that comes with viewing the Pentagon’s former highest ranking intelligence officer in charge of the hunt for Osama bin Laden now calmly and coolly confessing that the United States directly aided the foot soldiers of Ayman al-Zawahiri beginning in at least 2012 in Syria.

This confirmation is significant to my own coverage of the DIA report, as I was contacted by a number of individuals who attempted to assure me that the true experts and “insiders” knew the document was unimportant and therefore irrelevant within the intelligence community and broader Syria policy.

This began after a Daily Beast article entitled The ISIS Conspiracy That Ate the Web  cited former NSA officer John Schindler as an expert source. Schindler concluded of the DIA document: “it’s difficult to say much meaningful about it… Nothing special here, not one bit.”

To my surprise, only hours after I published a rebuttal of Schindler and the Daily Beast article, I was contacted by a current high level CIA official who is also a personal friend from my time living in the D.C. area.

This official, who spent most of his career with CIA Public Affairs, made a personal appeal urging me to drop my comments attacking John Schindler’s credibility, as I had noted that Schindler is a highly ideological and scandal-laden commentator who consistently claims special insider knowledge in support of his arguments. This CIA official further attempted to convince me of Schindler’s credibility as an insider and expert, assuring me that “he has written insightfully.”

Mehdi Hasan’s historic interview with General Flynn should put the issue to rest—the declassified DIA report is now confirmed to be a central and vital source that sheds light on the origins of ISIS, and must inform a candid national debate on American policy in Syria and Iraq.

As it is now already becoming part of the official record on conflict in Syria among respected international historians, knowledge of the declassified document must make it into every American household.

Retired Air Force General: Obama ‘Unilaterally Disarmed America’ May 22, 2016

Editor’s note: Ginni Thomas of The Daily Caller interviews Lt. Gen. USAF (ret.) Tom McInerney. A must see interview.

Russian and Chinese militaries are increasingly trying to bully American forces because they are “taking advantage of our weakness” and “publicly humiliating us,” according to a respected retired Air Force general and Fox News military analyst.

“It’s a slap in the face” to the United States, Retired General Tom McInerney says, and President Barack Obama “should not accept that kind of behavior.”

The president “unilaterally disarmed America,” adding “we have all these social experiments,” according to McInerney’s 18-minute exclusive video interview for The Daily Caller News Foundation. By transforming America’s foreign policy, McInerney says Obama’s America is known as a nation that will “protect your enemies and deny your allies support.”

Running through the world’s hot spots accentuated by Obama’s failed foreign policy, McInerney says he is “very worried” that Israel has not gotten the weapons and protection it needs from the United States for its survival.

McInerney has been a steady watchdog of the Benghazi incident, serving his country as a member of the Citizens Commission on Benghazi. He commends Judicial Watch for its tenacious efforts to uncover the facts of why Americans were left to die that fateful night on the anniversary of 9/11 in 2012. He is “disappointed” with the efforts made to date by House Chairman Trey Gowdy to uncover the facts of what went wrong in Benghazi.

McInerney decries the administration’s lack of response when asked “what difference does Benghazi make.” To him, it was a “dereliction of duty” for not providing adequate force protection before and during the attack.

the-4-americans-killed-in-benghazi

Obama wrongly attacked Libya because a small force of radical Islamists were threatening Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, who, albeit flawed, had become an ally to America in the war on terror, the respected retired general says.

America’s military had plenty of warning and should have been at a higher state of readiness. Watching the last scene from the Benghazi movie, “13 Hours,”  McInerney was offended of the reminder a Libyan charter plane came to take away the survivors and the fallen. He ashamedly asks, “Where was our great Air Force? Where was America to help these people?”

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private, unaccredited server to conduct government business  “put at risk our national security and she knew that.” The president, he adds, is culpable for those emails since his former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel would have told him of her conduct.

Obama Wants to Control and Punish Communities That Are Too White or Too Affluent

There is a bureaucratic overreach occurring on a grand scale, the most radical and transformative ever undertaken.  AFFH, the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Rule, will forever cease allowing Americans to decide what kind of housing is built in their neighborhoods.  If allowed to stand, the AFFH will allow only politicians and bureaucrats in Washington to decide the type of housing, race, class and ethnicity mix in our cities and towns.  Local governments will be under assault throughout our country.

Editor’s note:

The essence of this rule is to declare war on suburban America.

Senators Mike Lee (R-UT), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) are working to repeal this insanity.

For The Record

What is American Exceptionalism?

We’re tired of listening, from our president on down, to talk about American exceptionalism…like they know what they are talking about.  They don’t!

Alexis de Tocqueville, French writer, while traveling through America, first described the country as “exceptional” in 1831 and again in 1840.

Our exceptionalism simply refers to a nation designed and created from the outset with a belief in God, freedom, patriotism, limited government and free markets, with a rejection of socialism and class-conscienceness. All other countries of any consequence were nations that evolved over time.  The modern Democrat Party represents an assault on all five.

Editor’s note:  A Pew research study found, in 2011, that Americans 65 or older favored capitalism and the majority of people under 30 rejected capitalism and favored socialism.  While many of us were sleeping, your children were being indoctrinated in communism/socialism, dismissing America’s exceptionalism and values.

President Obama, by rejecting our exceptionalism, shows a dangerous and clandestine agenda.  Our nation IS under attack from within!

By Julian Hattem – 05/19/16 09:08 AM EDT

The Republican chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Thursday accused the Pentagon of dragging its feet in the latest episode of friction between the panel and the Obama administration.

While assembling purportedly final interviews as part of their investigation of the Sept. 11, 2012, terror attack in the Libyan city, Republicans on the committee in February asked the Department of Defense (DOD) to find the names of all drone pilots and operators in the area at the time.

The Pentagon has said the request is “unnecessary” and has already resulted in “a time-intensive search.”

And months later, the Defense Department still has not provided the names of drone pilots and operators working on the second day of the attack, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) said in a statement Thursday.

“The committee needs all of the names so the relevant witnesses can be interviewed and the investigation completed,” Gowdy said.

“Surely DOD can complete the simple task of finding the people within the chain of command in less than three months.”

Gowdy has been forced on his heels in recent days, following an unusually blunt allegation from the Pentagon that the Benghazi committee was wasting its time with vague, evolving and needless requests.

In a letter in late April, the Pentagon’s top congressional liaison, Stephen Hedger, included the committee’s demand for drone pilots as part of a list of grievances about “multiple and changing requests” in recent months, roughly two years after the panel was created.

The request this year appeared to be linked to a 2013 caller to Sean Hannity’s radio show, who identified himself as “John in Iowa” and suggested “individuals were remiss in their duties” during the violence, which killed four Americans, including Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

The Pentagon claimed to have expended “significant resources” to locate the man in particular, but came up empty-handed.

Timelines, however, differ on the request. The Pentagon claimed the committee followed up the “John from Iowa” request with an inquiry about all pilots and operators, but Gowdy has asserted that his committee asked for the names of all operators first and then homed in on the radio show caller.

The committee has already had access to drone video from the night of the 2012 terror attack, Hedger noted.

“[I]t remains unclear what additional information could be gained from these interviews, especially the pilots,” he told the committee last month.

Gowdy and other Republicans have claimed that their job is to follow any and all leads that may develop.

“The families of those killed and injured in Benghazi and the American people deserve to hear from any witness who can potentially provide relevant, probative evidence,” Gowdy said.

Members of the Benghazi committee have broken into new infighting in recent days, as the panel appears to be closing in on a summer release of its report about the Benghazi attack. Democrats have long dismissed the committee’s work as a taxpayer-funded partisan hit job against Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.

Critics of the committee were given new ammunition in May, when Democrats released comments from the former chief GOP counsel suggesting that the committee has been on a two-year goose chase.

“Nothing could have affected what occurred in Benghazi,” retired Army Lt. Gen. Dana Chipman said during a closed-door interview earlier this year.

Democrats did not provide full context for Chipman’s quote, and the full transcript remains secret. He has since stated that he supports the committee’s work.

“The committee has an obligation to the American people to determine what can and cannot be substantiated, so if an individual makes public allegations about Benghazi, the committee should interview that person,” he said in a statement after the Democratic release.
